Mental Health Coalition Follow-Up Survey

Jewish Family Services, as part of the Jewish Community Mental Health Coalition, and various partners in the community, sent out a survey about mental health attitudes just prior to the High Holy Days in 2011.

Over 300 people responded, giving us valuable insight into people’s attitudes about mental illness. However, we find we need some more specific information to develop an effective an action plan for providing more accessible and effective resources for those facing mental health challenges. Therefore, we would like you to take a brief, follow-up survey to more deeply explore our community’s concerns and attitudes around mental health issues.

And don’t worry – this brief survey typically takes under 5 minutes to complete, and your responses are both anonymous and confidential. You can take this survey whether or not you took the first one. Click here to take the survey.

NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program

The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program is a FREE course for family and friends of individuals with mental illness. Classes will be held 6:30 pm-9:00 pm on Wednesdays, beginning February 22, 2012 at the Jewish Community Campus. A 12-week commitment is required. JFS Is Looking For Holiday Helpers This Hanukkah

JFS is still looking for individuals, families and organizations to adopt a Bubbe or Zadye in our community who are struggling to pay for food, rent and medical expenses – necessities of life, leaving no money left for anything extra. That’s where JFS and you step in.

Volunteer Options:

Adopt an older adult for Hanukkah
Donated gift cards are needed from the following retailers: Wal-Mart, Target, Hy-Vee, Price Chopper and Hen House.
JFS will also accept cash donations to make last-minute purchases. Monetary donations may be made by mail or online by clicking here; checks should be made payable to JFS Hanukkah Project. Donations are tax deductible.
Assist at the gift wrapping party, which will take place on Monday, Dec. 12 in the Social Hall at the Jewish Community Campus between 4 p.m and 7 p.m.
Deliver the gifts to the homes of older adults on Dec. 15, 16 and/or 19.

You can make the Festival of Lights brighter this year for a Bubbe or a Zadye through Jewish Family Services’ Holiday Gift Project.

Please bring all gifts and/or gift cards to the JFS office at the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W. 115th St., Suite 103, through Monday, December 5. Grief and Loss Support Group

The Grief and Loss support group focuses on putting loss into the context of family functioning, Jewish/spiritual identity and ritual, and personal transformation. Extreme Yard Rakeover 2011

You choose the day and time, and we match you to an older adult in our community to rake and clean up their yard in preparation for winter! Raking dates will be from October 30 to November 13. You may have received a survey from the Jewish Community Mental Health Coalition attached to an email in your inbox from Jewish Family Services, Jewish Federation, or any number of congregations and partners throughout the Kansas City Jewish community.

The Jewish Community Mental Health Coalition is seeking input from people just like you and me about how mental illness impacts our lives, ourselves, our friends and families.

Jewish Family Services and The Rabbinical Association have joined forces with community volunteers to find how to best serve those facing mental health challenges, and this survey gives us the insight we need to help.
