Volunteer Opportunities

Helping others is a mitzvah. Jewish Family Services is involved with a number of programs and activities in which volunteers play a vital role. Currently volunteer opportunities include:
- Dec. 15, 2007, 3-7 p.m. Hanukkah Gift Wrapping Party, Social Hall of the Jewish Community Campus: Help to wrap gifts for the Hanukkah Gift Project, providing Jewish families with packages to celebrate the Festival of Lights. If you want to help, please call or email Sondra Atherly, (913) 327-8265 or satherly@jfskc.org.
- Jet Express – A volunteer driver program. Drivers are needed to transport older adults to a variety of locations including doctor’s offices, the grocery store or other retail outlets, etc. Drivers must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, have current auto insurance coverage and the ability to use their own vehicle. Volunteer drivers will complete a training program before being hooked up with riders. Volunteer drivers will be reimbursed at $0.33 a mile, however, reimbursement can be donated back to help underwrite the JET Express program. Drivers are needed particularly for day time hours as well as nights and weekends. To volunteer, please contact Adrienne Kizer, director of volunteers and special projects, (913) 327-8257 or email her at akizer@jfskc.org.
- Help@Home – This aging in place program, now in its pilot stages, provides a number of services for older adults who wish to remain in their homes living independently but need a little assistance to do so. If you have any skills in basic home repair, can lend a hand around the house by changing a light bulb or hanging a picture, or can assist with basic computer skills, please give us a call! Contact Dawn Herbet, director of older adult initiatives, (913) 327-8239 or dherbet@jfskc.org.
- Spring/Summer 2009: Friend-raiser event for JFS. This event will involve many people in our community in an entertaining evening in June. If you would like to become involved, contact Adrienne Kizer, director of volunteers and special projects, (913) 327-8257 or email her at akizer@jfskc.org.
