Holiday Assistance

Each year JFS offers three projects to help Jewish families and older adults participate in Jewish holidays.

Passover - JFS provides food for seder meals and kosher-for-Passover food for the entire week. Packages include chicken, matzah, gefilte fish, fresh produce and other food items. Kosher chickens available upon request.

High Holy Days - JFS provides food for an Erev Rosh Hashanah meal, including chicken, challah, honey, apples, and more.

Hannukah - is just around the corner and JFS is filling up with wish lists and gifts!  Families in need fill out a wish list which is shared with community members or groups who then help fulfill those wishes anonymously.

If you want to help:

  • Adopt a family or an individual and purchase presents for them with the help of the wish list they provide.
  • Donate cash or gift cards for HyVee, Price Chopper, Hen House, Walmart and Target.
  • Donate supplies, such as baskets, wrapping paper, scotch tape, postage stamps, Hannukah candles, dreidels, chocolate gelt and warm winter items for seniors – such as scarves, hats, gloves, etc.
  • Deliver the presents to the families!  We will be delivering on Thursday, December 15th, Friday, December 16th, and Monday, December 19th.
  • Wrap the presents!  The wrapping party is on Monday, December 12th in the Social Hall at the Jewish Community Campus from 4 pm to 7 pm.  Children are welcome to come and help.

The holiday programs would not be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and supporters. There are many opportunities to make a very real difference to Jewish families in need in our community, including assembling grocery bags, wrapping gifts, and making deliveries. Our volunteers tell us how rewarding and gratifying it is to know that their volunteer work is making a concrete difference.

Visit our volunteer page to learn how to get involved.  If you want to help, but your time is limited, financial support is critical to these programs, and you can donate here.  To donate food or needed holiday items, or for more information, contact Anna Feldman at 913-730-1452 or afeldman@jfskc.org.

Do you know a family in need? JFS wants to know if you, your family, or friends are in need of help this holiday. If so, please contact Anna Feldman at 913-730-1452 or afeldman@jfskc.org. All information will remain confidential.
