Deborah Snow Sheridan is a JFS counselor working in our Missouri offices at 8080 Ward Parkway. Before coming to JFS, Debbie worked for New Directions Behavioral Health as an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) counselor for 6 years and as a medical psychotherapist at Liberty Hospital for 9 years.
At JFS, Debbie works primarily with adult and older adult clients both individually and in couples or as families. Born in Springfield, MO, Debbie has lived most of her life in the area, and enjoys the Midwest with her many close friends and family here. As a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Debbie earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Psychology. She is a licensed psychologist in Missouri and a licensed clinical psychotherapist in Kansas.
Her fascination with human behavior in general, and mind-body interactions in particular, drew Debbie to the field of psychology. Using a positive psychology approach, Debbie focuses on building client’s strengths to help them deal with life challenges and develop the skills and attitudes that enhance resiliency. Clients become better able to face challenges that, without special training, might be overwhelming. Debbie gets her greatest professional satisfaction from her relationships with clients and seeing them grow.
One of Debbie’s areas of expertise is deep relaxation therapy using guided imagery for clients with phobias by reducing anxiety and enhancing coping skills for dealing with stress. Additionally, in her 30 years of counseling, Debbie has worked with individuals facing medical challenges along with psychological ones, ranging from undergoing cancer treatment and awaiting a heart transplant, to coping with diabetes and suffering from chronic pain and head trauma.
