JET Express Now Available!

Riders, volunteer drivers needed for Jewish Family Service's JET Express

Are you 65 or older and having trouble getting to the grocery store or a doctor’s appointment?

Jewish Family Services may have the solution for you!

JFS has launched JET Express, a volunteer driver program. The program is aimed at helping older adults meet their transportation needs.

JET Express will provide door-to-door transportation as well as an opportunity for older adults to access safe transportation for their everyday lives.  Members may use JET Express to be transported to doctor and dental appointments, the hairdresser, grocery shopping or any activity that helps you remain active and independent.

To be eligible to use JET Express, members must be 65 years old, without readily available transportation and cannot be wheelchair bound.  JET Express will be charging just $2.50 each way for this transportation service.

Both members and volunteer drivers are now being sought for this new community program.

Drivers must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid driver’s license, have current auto insurance coverage, the ability to use their own vehicle and undergo background screenings.   Volunteer drivers will be reimbursed at $0.33 a mile.

Those interested in volunteering should contact Adrienne Kizer at 913-327-8257 or akizer@jfskc.org. Training sessions are scheduled throughout September.

Those interested in becoming JET Express members should contact Dawn Herbet, director of older adult initiatives, at (913) 327-8239 or at dherbet@jfskc.org.

This new program is part of the Jewish Elder Transit initiative, launched by JFS in 2007.

JET Express is generously funded by grants from the Menorah Women’s Foundation and the Wilk Family Philanthropic Fund, both part of the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Kansas City, and the Jewish Federation of Greater Kansas City.

Jewish Family Services supports and strengthens the Jewish and general communities by providing high-quality services and programs that address the needs of individuals and families dealing with crises and the everyday challenges of life.
