Bikur Cholim… In light of the changing environment around COVID-19, the nature of this program has been updated to be online as a webinar. Rabbi Rudnick will be sharing remote ways to provide comfort and support to family, community, and strangers during this unique time. This event is for JFS Volunteers and Congregation partners.
Judaism places importance on the value of providing support, assistance, and companionship to others.
“At any given moment, there are many people in our Jewish community dealing with issues of health challenges, including but not limited to the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual dimensions,” per Rabbi Rudnick.
Explore this Jewish value of providing support, assistance, and companionship in a way that is most meaningful and beneficial to the person you visit. Gain insights into this act of loving-kindness, along with practical guidance from our Jewish Community Chaplain.
Zoom Webinar on Monday, March 30th at 10:00 a.m.
Rabbi Rudnick, who served as the first professional chaplain in Israeli healthcare, has served the Kansas City community in this role since 2006. In his role as chaplain, Rabbi Rudnick visits individuals and their families providing counsel in times of personal crisis, often related to a health issue, an ailing relative or a death in the family. The rabbi works closely with Spiritual Care Volunteers in making visits to members of the community at area hospitals, eldercare centers, and homes.
“We are offering this session for people in our community who want to learn about the mitzvah of visiting the sick and those in need – both what is this mitzvah and how does one go about doing this mitzvah. Anyone who attends will learn about the roots of this mitzvah in the Torah and rabbinic literature, as well as practical guidance for engaging in this mitzvah of supporting and being there for someone in need.”
This program is supported by funding from the Jewish Community Legacy Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation, Jewish Federation of Greater of Kansas City, Menorah Heritage Foundation and other community partners.
