Yes, we also accept fresh food donations!
Year long, the JFS Food Pantry strives to keep fresh produce on our shelves and are able to do this with the help of many organizations, including Whole Foods and Liberty Fruit, that donate fresh produce regularly. During the summer months, the Mitzvah Garden and After the Harvest offer a variety of crops to many local charities including JFS.
JFS also receives summer crops from locals that glean their gardens and donate fresh fruits and vegetables to the Food Pantry. Besides being nutritious, Food Pantry clients enjoy the variety that fresh produce can offer to supplement the non-perishable staples that they normally get.
JFS distributes more than 22,000 pounds of food to help feed over 390 families facing food insecurity. Through its Kansas and Missouri locations, the Food Pantry provides sustenance to people in need, regardless of religious affiliation. Both VAAD-supervised kosher and non-kosher food options are available, as are personal care, household items and pet food.
Donations, including fresh produce, are gratefully accepted at both pantry locations. JFS encourages businesses and organizations to run their own food drive to benefit the pantries. For more information about food drives, please contact Jo Hickey at 913-327-8257 or email email@example.com. Volunteer help is always needed to help as well.
