As part of Jewish Disabilities Awareness & Inclusion Month, Jewish Federation and Jewish Family Services are presenting TWO PROGRAMS focusing on supporting individuals with disabilities both in Israel and in Kansas City. The first is an evening event on February 26, open to all. The second is a professional training event at 12:00pm on the 26th at JFS Brookside. Both programs are detailed below.
New Directions for People with Disabilities

This free event features Gidi Zur, CEO of Kivunim, an organization serving young people with disabilities in Israel.
Zur will share information about Kivunim’s ground-breaking work in creating new programs and models to help those with disabilities live meaningful and independent lives while contributing to society.
Before and after Zur’s session, there will be a community resource fair showcasing Kansas City organizations that work with special populations. The resource fair will be open from 6:40 – 7:00 pm and immediately following Zur’s session, 8:20 – 9:00 pm.
The event also will offer information about Kansas City Kollel’s Ahoovim program for adults with special needs from Nan Kanter, Assistant Program Coordinator, and will feature a short performance by talented pianist and Ahoovim participant Andrew Fink.

Gidi Zur is Kivunim’s CEO and co-founder. A former teacher with an M.Ed in educational counseling, he has extensive experience working with youth at risk and developing programs for special needs youth. Mr. Zur served in the IDF as an officer in the paratroopers and is a graduate of the Mandel School for Educational Leadership. He was a founding staff member at Kishorit, the director of two post-high school/pre-army preparatory programs and a member of the Board of Directors of the House of Wheels.
