We join our local Jewish Community Relations Board (JCRB|AJC) and the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies in expressing our grief and outrage over the death of George Floyd by police, along with the continued pattern of violent injustices committed against Black Americans. We endorse the joint statement released by JCRB and support their leadership and the efforts of the Jewish community to continue learning about racial injustice, joining in the work of combating systemic racism in our community and country.
Today, we reaffirm our commitment to serve our clients, volunteers, staff and community with compassion and respect, regardless of race or ethnicity. We are here to support people and our community while advocating for equitable treatment and policies across our social systems. We know we have a lot to learn and there is much work to be done.
JFS was founded on the Jewish value of Tikkun Olam, which literally means “repair of the world.” This continues to guide our work as we stand with those made vulnerable by continued inequity and marginalization. By listening, recognizing our own shortcomings and working together, we can join in the building of a more just and compassionate society.
